Our feet work tirelessly every single day—carrying us through life, supporting our bodies, and taking us on countless adventures. Yet, they’re often the most neglected part of our self-care routine. That’s why National Feet Week is the perfect time to show your feet some well-deserved love!
Since many of us will be getting more active this month—whether it’s through daily walks or a fitness challenge like Active for April (read more about it)—it’s even more important to care for our feet properly. After all, happy feet make for a happier, healthier you!
In this blog, we’ll share why foot care matters and give you easy tips to keep your feet feeling fabulous.
Why Foot Care is Important
Your feet support your entire body—literally! When neglected, issues like blisters, cracked heels, or muscle pain can make walking uncomfortable and even lead to long-term posture problems. Taking just a few minutes each day to care for your feet can:
✔ Prevent Pain & Discomfort – Regular care reduces common foot issues like dry skin, calluses, and sore muscles.
✔ Boost Circulation & Reduce Swelling – A simple foot massage or soak improves blood flow and helps reduce swelling—especially if you’re on your feet a lot.
✔ Keep Skin & Nails Healthy – Proper hydration and nail care prevent infections, ingrown nails, and fungal issues.
✔ Enhance Relaxation & Reduce Stress – Your feet contain pressure points linked to stress relief and overall well-being—making foot care a great way to unwind!
Simple Foot Care Tips for Healthy, Happy Feet
1. Give Your Feet a Relaxing Soak 🛁
At the end of a long day, an Epsom salt foot bath can work wonders! It helps soothe sore muscles, soften skin, and reduce swelling.
💡 DIY Foot Soak Recipe:
- Warm water (enough to cover your feet)
- 1/2 cup Epsom salt (to ease muscle tension)
- A few drops of essential oil (lavender for relaxation, peppermint for a cooling effect)
- Optional: Add dried herbs like chamomile for extra soothing benefits
Soak your feet for 10–15 minutes and enjoy the relaxation!
2. Moisturise & Massage Your Feet Daily 🦶
Dry, cracked heels? Regular moisturising is key! Use a rich foot cream or coconut oil before bed to lock in moisture.
For an extra treat, try a foot massage:
- Use a small amount of oil or lotion.
- Apply gentle pressure with your thumbs, focusing on the arches and heels.
- Roll a tennis ball or frozen water bottle under your foot for a deeper massage.
Massaging your feet boosts circulation, eases tension, and helps relieve aches!
3. Trim & Care for Your Toenails Properly ✂
Keeping your nails clean and neatly trimmed helps prevent ingrown toenails and infections.
Toenail Care Tips:
- Trim nails straight across (not rounded) to prevent ingrown nails.
- File rough edges to avoid snags.
- Keep nails clean and dry to prevent fungal infections.
4. Choose Comfortable, Supportive Footwear 👟
Wearing ill-fitting shoes can lead to foot pain, blisters, and long-term posture issues. When choosing footwear:
- Opt for arch support to prevent strain.
- Make sure there’s enough room for your toes.
- Rotate your shoes to avoid wearing the same pair every day (this helps prevent foot odour and discomfort).
5. Stretch & Strengthen Your Feet 🧘♀️
Strong, flexible feet help improve balance, reduce pain, and prevent injuries. Try these simple foot exercises:
- Toe Stretch: Stretch your toes wide apart and hold for 10 seconds. Repeat 5 times.
- Heel Raise: Stand and lift onto your tiptoes, hold for 5 seconds, then lower. Repeat 10 times.
- Ankle Circles: Rotate your ankles clockwise and counterclockwise to improve mobility.

Your feet carry you to amazing places every day—so why not take some time to show them a little love this National Feet Week? Whether it’s a soothing foot soak, a relaxing massage, or simply wearing the right shoes, small steps can make a big difference.
